On February 25, the South Pasadena Unified School District recognized long-time school and community volunteer, Kathleen Michel, at the Northwest San Gabriel Valley Administrators Association Golden Apple Awards Breakfast. Each member district recognizes one volunteer for their outstanding contributions for the year, and South Pasadena’s selection was a unanimous one.
Kathleen Michel has five children; three have graduated from South Pasadena, one is in high school, one is in middle school. Kathleen began her volunteer career in South Pasadena when her first child was in Kindergarten and her volunteer work continues as her grandson now attends Marengo School. In addition to classroom participation, Kathleen has been extremely active in PTA leadership at both the school site and council levels. She has been the PTA President more than once and is currently PTA president at South Pasadena Middle School. Kathleen has served as PTA Vice President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, Committee Chair and has been an active volunteer on numerous PTA Committees.
Kathleen’s contributions in organization of the Fun Fair was no easy feat to put-together requiring the coordination of rides, venders, foods and the employment of countless volunteers to work the event, but she was definitely the cog to get things moving smoothly and in the right direction.
In case her school site contributions were not enough to fill her time, Kathleen has been active in South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF), having served as a board member and currently the coordinator of the Fall Fund Drive. Kathleen has a way that makes it hard to say no even when called upon to assist in the SPEF annual phone bank. And, that is not all - Kathleen was quick to volunteer on the District’s Measure S campaign that passed with overwhelmingly support from the community.
Congratulations, Kathleen, and thank you for all you do for SPUSD!
