The SPHS Instrumental Music Department participated in the Worldstrides Heritage Festival in San Francisco last weekend and received 8 total awards.
22 schools from six states competed in this national level festival on April 10th and 11th. Nearly 90 students from our high school’s Instrumental Music programs, under the instruction of Director Howard Crawford, competed in three ensemble categories: Concert Band, String Orchestra, and Jazz Band.
All three ensembles performed exceptionally well and scored above 90 out of a possible 100 points earning them Gold Awards. Jazz Band and String Orchestra won 2nd place Gold Awards in the 3A class, and the Concert Band won the 1st place Gold Award in the 3A class. Concert Band and Jazz Band also won Adjudicator Award Trophies for scoring above 95. An Outstanding Award was given to the Concert Band for achieving the highest score among all concert bands that performed that weekend in San Francisco. In addition, Senior Alex Pinto and Junior Madeleine Hayes, each received Individual Maestro Awards for their outstanding performances in Jazz Band. Way to go, Tigers!
