November 6, 2015: Tiger Newspaper has been named a 2015 Crown Finalist by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Tiger has been a CSPA Gold Medalist eight times since 2001. This is the first time since 1995 that Tiger has been named a Crown Finalist. The Crown Awards are the highest awards given to student publications by CSPA. More than 1,200 schools compete in the Crown Awards program, but about only 200 Crown Awards are given to school newspapers, yearbooks, news magazines, video productions, and online media.
A panel of judges views all Crown Award entrants. Judges are experienced former advisers to student media, professional journalists who understand student media, or professionals such as
photographers or online specialists with particular expertise needed for judging.
The judges reviewed the print edition of Tiger and the Tiger Online website. They selected two pages from Tiger’s October and November print issues and screen shots from the website to be
featured on the 2016 CSPA Crown Award Winners DVD.
Award winners will be announced during CSPA’s 92nd annual Spring Scholastic Convention at Columbia University in New York City on March 18, 2016.
