School Board to Accept Verbal Comments on the Mission Place Project Draft EIR

During its regular meeting on January 12, 2016, the South Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education (School Board) will conduct a public hearing to receive verbal comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed Mission Place Development Project.  The Draft EIR will be available for public review beginning on January 5, 2016, with an electronic copy posted on the District’s website and printed copies available for review at the District’s office at 1020 El Centro Street, the South Pasadena Library, and South Pasadena City Hall.  The Board meeting on January 12th will be held at the District Office Board Room at 1020 El Centro Street in South Pasadena and will begin at 6:30 pm.

 

There will be additional opportunities for public comment on the Draft EIR beyond the public hearing on January 12th.  Notably, the publication of the Draft EIR on January 5, 2016 will begin a 45-day public review period, during which the School District will accept written comments on the document. 

 

The Mission Place Project is a mixed-use development proposal for the surface parking lot portion of the School District offices site at 1020 Mission Street, between Diamond and Fairview Avenues.  The proposed project would consist of two, three-story buildings comprised of ground-floor commercial space fronting on Mission Street and apartments primarily on the second and third floors.  A total of 91 residential units and 7,000 square feet of commercial space are proposed.  The project would also include a three-level underground parking garage to serve the proposed uses, as well as the School District and general public.  In 2008, the district initiated a strategic objective to secure local sources of revenue by developing the district’s parking lot.
